Rev C T Bennett Dies at Hospital
Well known resident suffered Stroke a Week Ago; Rites on Tuesday
Rev. C T (Preacher) Bennett, 66, died at Memorial hospital about 4:30 Friday afternoon, 10 minutes after being rushed there following a stroke at his home, 505 West Douglas street. Mr Bennett, a well-known figure here for the past 24 years, had suffered an earlier stroke on Sunday, May 28th, and had been confined to his home since that time. He suffered another stroke then Friday afternoon.
Fairfield Pastor – He was a pastor of Pentecostal churches in Fairfield and Albion in past years and also worked for a number of years here as a painter.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm Tuesday from Nale’s Funeral Home, with Rev Kelly Eckleberry officiating. Interment will be in Koontz cemetery. The body will be at the funeral home until the funeral hour.
Charles Thomas, son of Mr and Mrs Nelson Bennett, was born in Tennessee July 17th, 1894.
List of survivors – He was married to the former Lillian Bain, with 10 children born to this union. Surviving are his wife, Lillian; three sons, David of Chicago, and Paul and Danny, at home; seven daughters, Mrs Mary Lewis of St Louis, MO; and Mrs Eva Clark of Albion, and Martha, Wilma, Jean, Ruth Ann and Becky Sue; at home; also 12 brothers and sisters.
12/13/1984 Mrs Lillian Bennett, 71, Dies; Rites on Friday
Mrs Lillian Bennett, 71, of Fairfield, the widow of Rev Charles T Bennett, died 5:45 am Wed 12/12/1984 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Mrs Bennett was ill with cancer since June of this year.
Services Friday. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Fri at Johnson Funeral Home with Rev Don George and Rev Ron Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Koontz Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be conducted after 6 pm Thurs (tonight).
Mrs Bennett was born in White County 9/11/1913, the daughter of Charles and Martha (Sumner) Bain. She was wed to Rev Charles T Bennett at Browns 1/6/1937. He preceded her in death in June 1961.
Mrs Bennett was employed with Sexton Manufacturing Co in her earlier years. She took care of several elderly people at various times an sat with the sick in recent years. She attended Holiness Rescue Mission.
The Survivors. Survivors include 3 sons, David and Paul Bennett, both of Cisne, Daniel Bennett of Fairfield, 7 daughters, Mary Lewis, Martha Young and Mrs Paul (Becky) Thomason, all of Fairfield; Mrs Carl (Eva) Royse of Olney, Mrs Larry (Wilma) Pepperdine of Charleston, Mrs Jimmy G (Rhoda Jean) Walker of Cisne, an Ruth An Tondini of Rohnert Park, CA; a brother John Bain of Fairfield, 5 sisters; Mrs Roy (Mary) Johnson of Carmi, Mrs Walter (Grace) Shelton of Grayville, Mrs Bill (Nellie) Shelton of Crossville, Mrs Leda Roeder and Mrs Ruth Jamerson both of Fairfield; and 23 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, a sister and 2 grandsons.
The funeral of the child (Jesse L) of Mr & Mrs Bennett, a family just arrived, was conducted at the Chapmah School House under the auspices of the Dunkard Soiety, Mrs Taylor officiating. (11/5/1879 Burtonian newspaper, Tekamah, NE)
